Coal Miner Memorial

On September 23, 2001, at the Jim Walter Resources No. 5 coal mine in Brookwood, a cave-in caused a release of methane gas resulting in two major explosions, killing thirteen miners.

West Brookwood Church, located directly beside the No. 5 Mine, honors those that were lost that day with our annual memorial service.
